MISSION MOMENTS

WATTS UP CORNER – KEEPING YOU IN THE KNOW

If you feel like utility bills are climbing faster than ever, you’re not alone. Across the U.S., average household utility costs have jumped 41% in the last five years, with families now paying around $424 a month for electricity, gas, and water combined. Electricity prices alone are rising faster than inflation and are expected to keep climbing through 2026 U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). For many households, especially those already stretched thin, these costs are more than numbers, their choices between keeping the lights on or putting food on the table.

That’s where the Fuel Fund, and donors like you make a real difference. Your support helps households keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

When every dollar counts, small energy-saving habits can make a big difference. Take the Johnson family from Baltimore County, for example. Last winter, they tried a few simple tricks: swapping out old bulbs for LEDs, sealing drafty windows with inexpensive weatherstripping, and unplugging devices that weren’t in use. The result? Their monthly bill dropped by nearly 20%, giving them breathing room in their budget and peace of mind knowing the lights would stay on.

These kinds of changes aren’t flashy, but they do add up. Even setting your thermostat a few degrees lower at night or running laundry in cold water can shave costs without sacrificing comfort. For families already stretched thin, those savings are more than numbers, their meals on the table, gas in the car, or medicine in the cabinet.

That’s why your support matters. Donors like you help households stay connected. Together, we’re proving that efficiency isn’t just about the “WATTS”, it’s about safety and keeping households connected.
