Every Season Matters: Year-Round Energy Assistance for Maryland Households

June 2026 Blog

As summer approaches and we near the close of our fiscal year (June 30, 2026), it’s a natural time to pause and reflect, not just on the months behind us, but on the ongoing needs of the households we serve.

At the Fuel Fund of Maryland, we know that the need for financial assistance with utility bills doesn’t follow a calendar. While winter often brings urgent attention to heating needs, the reality is that every season presents its own challenges. From rising summer cooling costs to year-round financial pressures, many Maryland households face difficult choices just to stay connected.

That’s why every season matters.

Because of the continued support of our donors, the dedication of our community partners, and the resilience of the individuals and families we serve, energy assistance is available when it’s needed most: no matter the time of year.

As one recent applicant shared:

“I didn’t know what I was going to do, but your financial assistance grant helped me get my power turned back on. Now I can focus on finding a job so my kid never has to do homework in the dark again. Thank you for being there when it mattered most.”
— J. Thompson, Anne Arundel County

Your generosity allows us to respond not only in moments of crisis, but in the quieter, everyday situations that can quickly become overwhelming. It ensures that a parent doesn’t have to choose between keeping the lights on and paying for groceries. It provides peace of mind for older adults, families, and individuals working hard to maintain stability.

To our donors, thank you for your ongoing commitment to our mission of keeping BGE households connected.

To our community partners, thank you for helping us expand access to utility assistance programs and deepen our impact.

And to our applicants, thank you for trusting us during challenging times.

Your support continues to make a meaningful difference for BGE households and communities across Maryland, today and in every season.

As we look ahead to a new fiscal year, we do so with gratitude and renewed purpose. Together, we are building stronger, more resilient communities, one household at a time. We look forward to sharing more about the impact we’ve made together over the past year in next month’s blog. Stay tuned.

Because every season matters and so does every act of support.

Be well until next month.
