Handling life one day at a time

Deshawn works as a retail manager, while his wife, Tamara, is a dedicated teacher for Baltimore City Schools. Despite their hard work and commitment, the cost of living has been a constant challenge for the couple. With no children, they have focused on building a stable life together, but the financial strain has been overwhelming.

Every day, Deshawn and Tamara give their all to their jobs, hoping to make a difference in their community and provide for each other. Yet, despite their best efforts, they found themselves struggling to keep up with the rising costs of living. The couple began relying more and more on credit cards to cover everyday expenses, and the mounting debt became a heavy burden.

One day, they received a turn-off notice from BGE. It was a moment of panic and uncertainty for Deshawn and Tamara, who had never experienced needing help of any kind before. The fear of losing their utilities added to the stress they were already feeling, and they didn’t know where to turn.

In their time of need, they reached out to the Fuel Fund of Maryland. It was their first time seeking assistance, and they were unsure of what to expect. However, their experience with the Fuel Fund was nothing short of exceptional. The compassionate and understanding team at Fuel Fund provided the support they needed to keep their utilities safely connected.

Deshawn and Tamara were deeply grateful for the assistance they received. Deshawn shared, “The Fuel Fund was an angel when we needed it most. They helped us when we were at our lowest point, and their support made all the difference. We never thought we would need help, but the Fuel Fund treated us with dignity and respect.”

Tamara added, “It was a humbling experience, but also a reminder that it’s okay to ask for help. The Fuel Fund gave us hope and the ability to focus on getting back on our feet.”

Now, as they work to turn the corner and regain financial stability, Deshawn and Tamara are committed to giving back. They have pledged to donate to the Fuel Fund once they are back on their feet, hoping to help other families facing similar struggles.
