Utility Assistance Programs – Residential customers only

Founded in 1981, the Fuel Fund of Maryland has over 44 years of experience providing utility assistance grants to households in the BGE service territory.  We are committed to helping households maintain their utility services with their utility provider, BGE.

The Fuel Fund prides itself on its accountability and sustainability in administering these services over the past four decades.

Applicants seeking financial grants may qualify for help through one of the following utility assistance programs:

Power of One: Created in 2022, this utility crisis intervention program is designed for single-parent households. It offers specialized one-on-one navigational support with the utility assistance application process at the Fuel Fund of Maryland.

Silver Lights: Launched in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this program provides specialized utility assistance for older adults (60+) and those with critical medical needs. Silver Lights clients receive one-on-one navigational support through the complex utility assistance process, working with a dedicated staff member to meet their unique technological needs.

Traditional: If you do not qualify for Power of One or Silver Lights, you may receive assistance from this program. It provides essential support to households in need of utility assistance.

To qualify for a financial grant from one of these three programs, an applicant must currently have no power in their home or be in receipt of a turn-off notice from BGE. Please note that the Fuel Fund does not assist with high utility balances.
