Funding Model
Founded in 1981, the Fuel Fund of Maryland is a nonprofit organization that relies solely on donations, without federal or local government funding. Our financial assistance model may change based on available resources. The Fuel Fund is independent of BGE and the state utility assistance program, known as OHEP (Office of Home Energy Programs).

** PLEASE READ - APPLICANTS CODE OF RESPONSIBILITY **
- The Fuel Fund provides financial grants thanks to our generous donors, but it is your responsibility to manage and pay your utility bill. Our role is to offer temporary financial assistance, not to clear your BGE balance entirely. You must contribute to reducing your balance when working with the Fuel Fund.
- Once you hear from the Fuel Fund, follow the instructions carefully and avoid communicating with us through other channels. Failure to comply with these instructions, such as submitting multiple applications or not following provided guidelines, may result in delays or denial of assistance.
- Be proactive! If you are struggling to pay your BGE bill or make monthly payments, contact BGE at 1-800-685-0123 to discuss your options before your balance gets too high.
